Sizing Charts and More

Arthur Porg here.
Since I’m the more practical Porg at Porgstar, Ford felt it was prudent that I be the one to put together what he considers the boring bits of the website. In reality he just needed an excuse to pop off to the local pub for a bit.

As porgs, Ford and I have found it difficult to find proper fitting t-shirts here on Earth. Considering our difficulties we wanted to provide as much sizing information as possible so you can choose the best fit for you. Here you will find sizing charts and some technical information for the apparel we use. This information is pulled direct from the manufacturer when possible and in some cases from different distributors who provide different info.

A few quick disclaimers:

  • All measurements are in inches.
  • All apparel is cut and sewn within tolerances. This means that all measurements provided by a manufacturer are accurate within a certain range. The ones listed below are accurate within an inch in either direction.
  • All shirts listed below are considered “pre-shrunk”, but the reality is they will shrink just a tad. If you dry them on high heat they will definitely shrink. Don’t do that.
  • If in doubt on what size you are, or if you are in-between two sizes, we’ve been told it’s usually best to go up a size.

Bella + Canvas 3001

The Bella + Canvas 3001 (B+C) is our deluxe men’s t-shirt. Its light weight, soft touch, and fitted look give it the quality of higher end designer tees… without the expense.

  • With a 4.2 oz weight it is very lightweight and breathable. After a couple of washes it becomes super soft and comfortable.
  • It is side-seamed. This gives a more fitted and flattering shape and allows it keep its shape longer.
  • The solid colors we choose are 100% combed and ringspun cotton which gives it the soft feel.
  • It is considered semi-fitted and therefore when wearing the right size it should not feel baggy or overly loose.

Gildan 64000

The Gildan 64000 is considered our budget men’s t-shirt, but don’t let that fool you. This is still a fantastic feeling and fitting t-shirt.

  • With a 4.5oz weight it is slightly heavier feeling than the Bella + Canvas 3001.
  • It is not side-seamed and will have a less-tapered fit than the B+C. Without side-seaming, over time the fabric may start to twist.
  • It is made from 100% ringspun cotton, but is not combed, so it will not feel quite as smooth to the touch as the B+C.
  • While considered semi-fitted it will have an overall looser fit in the torso and neck than the B+C 3001.

Anvil 880 Women’s T

We looked at quite a few women’s t-shirts before settling on this one. For the money this shirt is hard to beat. Like the B+C 3001, the 880’s fit and finish are on par with much pricier designer tees.

  • The 880 has a 4.5 oz weight to be light and breathable. We looked at lighter weight tees but they ended being too see-through for the women we polled.
  • It is side-seamed. This allow for a classic semi-contoured silhouette and allows it keep its shape longer.
  • The solid colors we choose are 100% combed and ringspun cotton which gives the shirt a super soft feel.
  • It is considered semi-fitted and therefore when wearing the right size it should not feel baggy or overly loose.

A note on Unisex sizing

Both the B+C 3001 and Gildan 64000 t-shirts are technically considered unisex tees. But after talking with some of our female human friends on the sizing and fit of both mens and women’s shirts we’ve decided to consider them men’s shirts. There are four main reasons for this as compared to a true women’s fit:

  • The sleeves end up being quite long compared to a women’s tee. (1-2″ longer)
  • The shoulders will be wider. This also leads to the sleeves feeling longer.
  • They are considerably longer neck to bottom hem. (2-3″ longer)
  • They tend to be baggier feeling. (approx. 1″ wider through the torso)

I hope this helps you decide on the perfect shirt for you. If you already have one (or more) of our shirts, please let us know how they fit. Feel free to send along a picture with your measurements and shirt size so we can share fit information with other folks out there. And as always, if you have any questions on sizing, drop us a line and we’ll answer as best we can.

Cheers!
